MY STORY IN ART

I never was going to be a "numbers person". The written word, the physical expressions of the imaginative and creative mind -- that is where I knew I could dream and find myself.

I explored various modes of expression while earning my B.A. in studio art at Maryville University and found myself most drawn to printmaking and painting. Years of stopping and starting creative pursuits passed until, finally, with children grown and working life completed, it was time to apply my energies to painting -- hesitantly at first, then robustly.

Landscapes make me happy. I dream of places I could cheerfully get lost in, and that is where I start when composing my scenes. Another fascination for me is texture. What I have tried to do in my current work is to marry acrylic paint with medium and apply them with palette knives to create these heavily textured landscapes. Often when adding the tiniest of details I even make use of toothpicks, painstakingly. Because of the heavy paint texture I use a sturdy support of cradled wood panels; these may be framed or left unframed. Depths range from 1" to 2". All of this creates a look I love. I hope you love it, too, and can imagine yourself lost in my landscapes.
